2016 was a pretty great year for gaming-below are the most memorable ones that I played.
BEST GAME NOT RELEASED IN 2016: Dragon Quest V(Nintendo DS)
Finally beat my first Dragon Quest game this year-and it was awesome. Memorable characters, music, and battles combined to make a game I’ll never forget. It made me a big fan of the series-after being interested in it for quite a while.
Games that I really liked-but haven’t finished
The Last Guardian-PS4
Still have some work to do in finishing the game-but I can see why people are so in love with it. It’s a standard Fumito Ueda game-and I figure the ending will be a real tearjerker.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE-Wii U
This game really surprised me. I was not expecting a Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem game to be about pop idols, but the game really plays well and the characters are good. Will have to put more time into it in 2017.
Pokemon Sun & Moon-Nintendo 3DS
These came out when I was finishing a few other games, so I really haven’t had a huge chance to play them yet-I feel like they will be pretty great though.
My 5 favorite games of 2016
5. Ratchet and Clank-PS4
Ratchet and Clank was a great reboot for the series and Insomniac made a fantastic game. It looked, ran, and played great and the trademark humor of the series was spot on. The final boss of the game was also fantastic. Also have to give props to Insomniac for taking advantage of the PS4 Pro’s capabilities.
4. Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice-3DS
Another great addition to the Ace Attorney series, Spirit of Justice might have some of the best overall cases in the series. The focus on Apollo is awesome since he is probably my favorite character in the series. Capcom really knocked out of the park with the presentation in the game as well, as it is much better looking than the previous game, Dual Destinies.
A surprise hit for many this year-Doom was pure frenetic fun for me. The differing amount of enemies and weapons are what stood out most to me in the game. Bethesda also did a great job making Doom run super smooth. Also have to mention the great music that goes well with the game.
2. Final Fantasy XV-PS4
Yes, the game feels rushed at the end, but I had so much fun playing this game. The characters are great(they make up for the weak points of the story). The gameplay is addictive, and the combat is much more in depth than it looks. Final Fantasy XV’s soundtrack is up there with one of the best I’ve heard. Also the ending is probably the best of the year.
1.Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End-PS4
A perfect ending to Nate’s story-there is nothing else more I can say. Chapter 11 is probably the best segment of any game ever. Naughty Dog continues to be the best developer in the industry.
All in all, it was a great year of gaming in 2016 and 2017 promises to be just as good, if not better.
